LEAD Scholars Program

The LEAD Scholars Program is an organization within Santa Clara University that supports 1st generation college students. Their website contains important info for students, family, alumni, and the general public.

Problem

LEAD Students need simple navigability to LEAD related content because they might not be familiar with LEAD as they might have just joined the program.

Goal

The redesigned LEAD website will let users lookup essential program content so they can continue to stay in LEAD which will affect users who aren’t submersed in the program by letting these users gain understanding of what is required in order to stay in LEAD. We will measure effectiveness by tracking website reviews.

User Research

The primary user group identified through this research was college students who don’t know how to navigate the college field. This user group confirmed initial assumptions about 1st generation college students, but research revealed that lack of understanding about the college experience was not the only factor limiting users from fully achieving their potential at college. Other user problems on these websites included lack of time, outdated information, and poor website navigability.

Impact

I demonstrated this potential redesign idea to the program’s director and they loved it. However, there wasn’t any further reach out after that meeting. I did show this project to a couple LEAD students. One student said, “I love LEAD but looking through my email to find events details or announcements is tedious. Having everything I could search for right on the website saves me time and effort. I hope LEAD implements this design.”
